I found these "Bonsai" plants at the Sunday market in Grabouw...
I mean...Grabouw....!!!! They even had sushi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The market didn't look like it was a popular tourists' spot,
as it was full of local (-looking) people...and there were bonsai and sushi...
2010 marks the 100th year of Japan-SA relationship, and
at least I can see how Japanese culture has really spread in this country.
You can find sush bar all over Cape Town, and I know some Capetonians
who each sushi at least once a week... You won't find even Japanese people
who eat sushi so often!!!

I was chatting with a friend this morning about Buddhism.
He has read so much about it, it was really shocking!
But this is not the first time I meet someone who follows
so-called "Eastern philosophy". I cannot help but be proud of the wisdom
of my ancestors!

Come to think about it, many South Africans know a lot about my culture.
On the ohter hand, there are not many Japanese people who know about
South African culture such as braai, pap, potjie, and all that...

As we celebrate the centinnial year for Japan-SA relationship, and
with all the exposures SA will have during the World Cup,
I really hope that Japanese people will get to know SA...

Now, for something completely different...
I believe that any given situation can be perceived as either hell or heaven.
Any situation can change with simply how you look at it...
The cold wind that the autumn is bringing now, for example, felt really harsh
this evening when I got home.
But then, after 1 hour of dancing salsa, it was nothing but a fresh breeze
that felt really, really good.
Isn't that nice??

ケープから少し離れた田舎町の日曜市で盆栽を見つけた。
何とそこには寿司もあった！！！

この日曜市、決して観光スポットではなく、地元の人たちしかいない
こじんまりとしたもの。そんなところに盆栽と寿司が。。。

2010年は、日本と南アの交流100周年記念。
日本の文化は間違いなく南アフリカで広がっている。
ケープタウンでは到る所にスシ・バーがあって、地元の知り合いで
週に1度は寿司を食べているという人も何人かいる。
日本人でもそんなに食べないだろ！

今朝、友達とお茶をしながら仏教について語った。
彼は仏教についてかなり本を読んで勉強していて、その知識にびっくり！
でも、実はケープタウンでいわゆる「東洋哲学」を信じる人は多い。
東洋人であることに誇りを持つ瞬間だ。

でも考えてみると、南アで日本の文化を知っている人はけっこういるけど
日本で南アの文化を知る人はとても少ない。

交流100周年記念を祝う、そしてワールドカップで南アが
日本でも注目される今年、日本のみんなに南アのこともっともっと
知ってもらえるといいな。

話は変わって。。。
どんな状況も見方によって天国にも地獄にもなる。
見る人の心の状態によって変わる。
秋を知らせる冷たい風。夕方家に帰る時は冷たく、辛く感じた。
でも1時間サルサを踊った後、同じ風がすごく気持ちよかった。
なんか得した気分。
