近くて遠い - near but far

3日前までいた南アフリカとケニアが同じ大陸にあるのが不思議。
テクノロジーのお陰で電話もメールもできるのがまだ救いだけど
南アでの3ヵ月半が遠い夢のように思えるなぁ。

こうして旅をしていると、日常がある瞬間日常じゃなくなる。
例えば南アで毎朝同じ時間に起床して(もちろん寝坊もするけど…)
出勤して働いて帰宅する。日々のリズムが出来る。

それが飛行機に乗ってケニアに帰ってきた途端に消える。
毎日顔を合わせていた人ともう二度と会わないかもしれない。

毎朝見ていた日の出、毎朝食べていたホテルの朝食、
ランチのサンドイッチ、当たり前に５ランドで買っていた
自販機のコーラ、毎日通った道、毎晩仕事帰りに寄ったスーパー。
もう二度とその生活に戻れない。

南アへのホームシックからのリカバリーにしばらく時間がかかりそう。

It was only 3 days ago when I was still is South Africa,
And now it seems so far away.
Thanks to the technology, I can stay in touch with people there,
But the 3 & 1/2 months of staying in SA seems like a distant dream.

When you travel like this, what was normal suddenly becomes special.
For example, waking up at same time every morning,
(well, sometimes later than usual.. but hey)
going to work, then coming back home in the evening.
It all becomes a routine.

Then, hop on the plane, come back to Kenya, and everything goes.
People I used to see everyday, I might never see them again.

The sunrise I watched from my room, the breakfast at the hotel,
Sandwiches we had for lunch, coke I used to buy
from that vending machine with 5 rand,
the road we saw everyday on the way to and from work,
the supermarket we went every evening after work…

I am never going back to that life again…

It will take some time for me to recover from this home-sick.
