Encouraged and Motivated! 激励されてやる気満々！

Almost completing my fifth month in Japan

and it's all going great!

It's been five months filled with both fun and challenges.

My main aim has been to get used to the job so far.

There's still a looooooong way, but am getting there, I think.

But it's still the same old Emi. Always looking for something more.

Just when I was thinking "I must do more!", the phone rang.

It was Mr. S.

The 70-year-old hero who has made a huge change in Kenya

and now moving on to his next project to change the world,

of course, for the better.

He asked me, "so, what have you been doing since I last saw you?"

and I answer what I've been doing.

He is not happy.

He asks me, "what happened to your dream?"

and I answer, "what happened to my dream??"

He tells me "Next time I see you, I want you to be shining"

and I answer, "I promise you will!"

So, I'm on the move. Moving towards my dream.

Encouraged, motivated and grateful.

日本帰国もうすぐ5か月。万事順調。

楽しいことと挑戦に満ちた5か月だった。

まずは、仕事に慣れることを目標にやってきた。

まだまだだけど、着実に進んでいる。と思う。

でもやっぱり私。何か足りない。

「もっと何かしたい！」と思ったその時、電話が鳴る。

Sさんからだ。

ケニアに大きな足跡を残し、今はまた新たなプロジェクトで

世界を変えようとしている70歳のヒーロー。

Sさん　「あれから何してたの？」

私、そのままを伝える。

Sさん　「あなたの夢はどうなったの？」

私　　　「私の夢はどうなったんでしょう？」

Sさん　「次に会うときは輝いてる姿を見せてほしい」

私　　　「はい！約束します！」

というわけで、始動。夢に向かって。

激励され、やる気満々、感謝いっぱい！

a break 一息

1 week has passed since I arrived back in Japan.

Tears of mixed emotions poured down on the arrival

and I got really worried about my life ahead, but

I have been keeping busy setting up a new life,

going out on an expedition in the new neightbourhood,

looking for a job, etc... and wow, 1 week gone already!

I am now at home with my family and finally relaxing a bit.

My mother showed me pictures of her last visit to Cape Town.

The beautiful ocean view from my flat almost made me cry again,

but for now, there's only moving forward!

Despite my fear of coming back to Japan after 13 years,

everything is still new and fun.

Although I am still not sure how well I can adapt to

the Japanese society, I am really looking forward to do

what I can do only in Japan!

日本に帰国して１週間が経ちました。

羽田空港に下り立ち、到着ロビーでは

色んな感情がごちゃごちゃになってしまい

いきなり号泣して、先が思いやられたものの

その後は生活立ち上げの準備に追われたり

新居周辺の探検したり、仕事を探したり、と

バタバタとあっという間に１週間経過。

昨日から実家に戻り、やっと一息ついてます。

母がケープに来たときのアルバムがあり

住んでいたアパートからの贅沢な海の景色に

すでに懐かしさを覚えたものの

今は前を向いて進むのみ！

あんなに恐れていた１３年ぶりの日本生活も

今はまだ新鮮なことだらけで楽しい。

これから仕事を始めて、いよいよ日本社会に

乗り込むのはやはり不安がありますが

日本でしか楽しめないことを見つけて

また色々経験するのも楽しみ！

もう一息ついたらまたどんどん皆に連絡するので

また宜しくお願いします！

South African Novels 南アの小説

Reading in bed has become my favourite time.

I have been reading South African novels a lot lately,

since it might be difficult to buy them in Japan.

My favourite is Deon Meyer.

The three of his books that I have read so far are all about

murders happening in Cape Town.

It is much easier than reading Japanese novels

as I am not very familiar with Japanese geography.

Long street, Waterfront, Cape Argus, N1, Bellville...

all these places that I know so well.

Of course, the stories are great too!

I should probably not take the books with me to Japan.

They will bring too much memory and make me cry.

最近の楽しみは寝る前の読書タイム。

日本では入手しにくいかも知れないので

今のうちに南アの小説を読んでいます。

今好きなのは、Deon Meyerという人のミステリー小説。

日本で言うところのおなじみ、十津川警部的なのも

ちゃんといます。

今までに読んだ３冊は舞台が全てケープタウン。

日本をあまりよく知らない私にとっては、こちらの方が

場面の想像がとてもしやすい。

職場のあるロングストリートやいつも買い物に行くウォーターフロント、

いつも読んでいる新聞、そしていつも使っている道の名前がたくさん出てくる。

もちろん内容も面白い。

日本でこれを読んだらきっとホームシックで泣けるので

本は持って帰らないようにしようかな。

Bon Dance 盆踊り

The Japanese Summer Festival is happening on 6/Mar!

We are going to rehearse Bon Dance today.

I had to learn the choreography of 4 songs last night,

and I will be teaching them to the committee members.

It's been a long time since I went to a summer festival

as I left Japan soon after finishing high school.

And geez, it's been even longer since I last danced Bon dances.

probably since primary school.

You usually find children and adults in the circle of Bon Dancers.

Teenagers don't do it. It's not so cool.

3月6日はケープタウン・ジャパンクラブの夏祭り！

それに向けて今日盆踊りのリハーサルです。

仕事とサルサのパフォーマンス練習に追われ

昨夜慌てて4曲覚えました。

それを今日幹事さんたちに教えるのです。

炭坑節

ドラえもん音頭

アラレちゃん音頭

東京音頭

高校卒業後に日本を出たので、夏祭りなんて

かなり久しぶり！さらに盆踊りを踊るなんて

小学校以来でしょうか。

盆踊りの輪って子供と大人しかいないですよね。

思春期にはちょっと恥ずかしいものですよね。

ケープタウンのアパートで、

盆踊りをひたすら一人で踊っている姿は

自分でもけっこう笑えました。
