I signed up for jazz piano lessons today!
Growing up as a daughter of a jazz freak, I never really appreciated the music so much.
The only impression of jazz was that deep base sounds which used to
wake me up when my dad came home at 5am and just thought it would be nice
to play a record...with full volume...
But I grew older and started sneaking into his club to listen to live jazz.
What a luxury! I could go there any time I felt like, just order a coffee and
be entertained...for free! I enjoyed listening it live, anything from
totally unknown amateur bands to the world-famous musicians!
Then I grew even older, and started listening to jazz even in my room.
It's such a perfect BGM, especially at night.
My desire to actually play jazz started growing inside me.
There is Jazz Workshop, literally just around the corner from my office.
which I've been passing for about 3 years, thinking, "one day...!"
As some of you may know, it can be quite hard to find a parking in town
before 5pm, and that has been my excuse not to knock on that door,
even though it's only 2 minute walk from my office...!
And...today...there it was...a free parking space!
No excuse. I parked. I paid for the parking. I knocked on that door.
The room was filled with the scent of old wood and coffee...and
everything in that room was musical! HEAVEN!!!!
I listened to the gentleman explain about the lessons, but half-heartedly
as I had already decided to do it when I parked my car.
My first lesson is tomorrow.
Ahhhhhh....so excited!!!!!

ですが今日は個人的なことを書いちゃいます。
今日、ジャズピアノ教室に入学しました！
ジャズフリークの娘として育つも、昔はジャズの良さがあまり分からなかった。
むしろ、私の中でジャズとは、父親が朝方帰宅して、気分が良いまま
隣の部屋で最大音量でかけるレコード。。。から聞こえてくるベースの音。
そのうち、父の経営するジャズクラブで生の演奏を聴くようになった。
何という贅沢だろう！いつでも潜り込んで、コーヒー一杯だけ飲んで
ただで生演奏を楽しむ！全く無名なアマチュア・バンドも、世界的に
有名なミュージシャンの演奏も、とにかく感動した。
今では自分でジャズのCDを聴く。夜には最高のBGMだな～。
そして実際にジャズという音楽を演奏してみたいと思うようになった。
オフィスのすぐ近くに、ジャズ教室がある。
もう3年近く、「いつか行こう！」と思いつつ前を通りすがってきた。
歩いて2分で行けるのに、ケープタウンで5時前に路上駐車の
スペースを見つけるのは大変、というのを言い訳に。
でも今日、駐車スペースがあった。もう言い訳できない。
車を停めた。注射代を払った。思い切ってドアをノックした。
入ってみると部屋の中は古い木とコーヒーの香りに包まれ、
楽器やら楽譜やら、とにかく音楽に関するもので溢れてる。

車を停めた時点で入学を決意していたので、
レッスンについての説明は上の空で聞いて即効入学。
初レッスンは早速明日！
大興奮です。
